100 Mile Canoe Test

This extensive kayaking/canoeing programme aims to get young people working together as a team and having fun. Often, the young people involved have experienced emotional and behavioural difficulties. The nature of this activity gives them opportunity and the skills to transcend these difficulties.

Community Sport Leaders Award

The CLSA is divided into seven tutored units of work.  Upon completing the seven units satisfactorily, candidates must complete a minimum of ten hours voluntary leadership experience.  This voluntary experience should be recorded and signed off in the relevant section of the log book by both the Voluntary Leadership Supervisor and the Tutor/Assessor.

Each candidate must be aged 16 or over at the time of registration.  A log book will be issued to each candidate for the BST Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership at the start of the course. It is designed to assist each candidate in charting their progress through the tutored hours of the course and also the 10 hours of Leadership Experience.  The log book outlines the skills and knowledge that each candidate will have to demonstrate in order to complete the Award successfully.

Adult Training Programme

WHAT?  The Training Matrix is a programme of training units that are designed to address the learning needs of target groups within youth work.

WHY?  Clubs for Young People has carried out both a training audit and training needs analysis to identify existing gaps in training provision. The general need for training for adult workers was underlined by a widespread unease that many workers were not adequately skilled for the work they undertook.

There was a willingness amongst staff to undertake appropriate training which;

·  Keeps costs to a minimum

·  Is as short as possible in duration whilst meeting training aims

·  Is locally delivered

·  Has flexibility with routes to qualifications and is modular in structure

WHO?  The target group is anyone who is working, or about to begin work with young people. Learners do not have to be involved with CYP, but they must be involved in youth work. This may be as a paid worker or volunteer in a statutory or voluntary club, community group or local authority. The target group is primarily, but not exclusively, learners who are currently working as volunteers within the CYP programme. The programme may be accessed by other groups of learners through negotiation with CYP.

Learners will be identified by their desire to develop their practical skills in the field of youth and community work. It will be NACYP's aim to ensure that learner's needs are clearly identified and that they are guided to learning programmes suitable to their needs.

AIM?  The primary aim of the programme is to offer formal recognition for the wide range of training opportunities offered by CYP for those working in a variety of youth work settings. The programme aims to offer appropriate learning opportunities that may be accessed at different points depending on the role and aspirations of the individual learner within a youth work setting.
