SAILING PROJECT 2009On Saturday 24th October 2009 Warwickshire Clubs for Young People in partnership with Warwickshire County Council Youth Service took ten young people on a Cross Channel Sailing experience. The young people involved were given the opportunity to sail a 64ft yacht from Southampton around the Solent, to the Isle of Wight and then to Cherbourg in Northern France and then on to Alderney in the Channel Islands. The young people were taught how to tie knots, navigate, the use and names of different sails and were given the opportunity to sail the yacht for themselves under supervision. On top of the sailing experience the young people were given the opportunity to experience new places by spending some much needed time ashore in Cherbourg and Alderney. This was a once in a life time experience for the young people and incredibly challenging. At times we were sailing for fifteen hours solid through the night, cooking and cleaning and coping with the trials of seasickness. All of the young people learned a huge amount about sailing and even more about themselves. Despite the challenges the young people had a fantastic experience and are keen to continue their sailing adventures. 09/11/2009
